This first book in The Rain Chronicles introduces Ryanne “Rain” Douglas,

a Teenage Heroine facing danger unlike anything she's ever known.
What makes it fresh? It's not her world. Rain is a regular African American kid from suburban America, living with her Scottish adoptive father, when the rulers of a galaxy-wide Empire force her into the biggest spectacle in the Universe: a deadly Survival Games-style race. She's not alone. Three hundred children from over a hundred worlds—some human, some evolved insects, and some evolved reptiles—are all thrust into the same nightmare scenario. This isn't about kids battling each other; instead, each participant must strive for survival against a multitude of nightmarish, genetically engineered creatures designed to hunt, trap, and kill them.
Among the other contestants is Arthur, a silver humanoid dragon.

The Empire made a mistake when they picked Rain,

and then they made things even worse by picking Arthur too!

Because Arthur and Rain share an incredible, fated connection.

Growing up thousands of light-years apart, both their fathers had made up adventure stories about the two of them together.

When they finally connect in person during the race, they gradually discover that being together in real life unlocks astonishing new powers.
